intro

Welcome to post-ecclesia (/pe/). Trust me, if I had a bottle of champagne right now, I’d be tempted to break it over my computer if I thought it would bring this blog any luck. This is, admittedly, a sophomoric project. Despite the recent saturation of faux-authentic (politically oriented) blogs mostly native to Substack and Medium (every post another polished shard of navel gazing), there’s still something waywardly tempting about starting a blog no one asked for.
Who blogs anymore, right? I, for one, harbor an embarrassing amount of misguided nostalgia for the blogosphere of the 2010s, and I’m the proud owner of a heavily annotated copy of k-punk currently buried on my desk beneath notes and a badly coffee-stained copy of King James Bible (courtesy of the youth group I attend- free coffee included!) Hopefully you are picking up what I am vaguely gesturing at here, and my fuzzy motivations for launching /pe/. Above all, I want to connect with other people out there who have a penchant for the things I do, even if I have to seek you all out by bushwhacking my way through today’s hyper-commodified web. You won’t find any media/content ‘growth hacks’ here. Only perpetual decay.
what to expect
I’ll try to avoid SEO like the plague, I promise. Nothing here will be optimized, unless you count a kind of psycho-spiritual optimization that will probably present itself in incoherent screeds. This blog will run on spite, rabid cultural pessimism, and what is probably a misguided longing for the information ecosystem of the early internet, the product of a generation that I myself am about 20 years removed from. Long after the death of meaning, right before the servers crash, this is where post-ecclesia situates itself. My own personal broken antenna catching fractured signals from beyond the void of contemporary culture and politics (my god, pretension levels are already off the charts here, I sincerely apologize).
Don’t expect coherence. Forgive me in advance for any breakdowns, ‘intellectual’, emotional, spiritual, or otherwise that will inevitably grace this blog. Now, what will you find here? Haphazardly interpreted theory. Some musicology stuff. Misguided attempts at art criticism. Paranoia. Pareidolia. Paradoxes. Heidegger, Deleuze (don’t hedge your bets on my understanding of the BWO), Virilio, Adorno, Fisher, Land (before NRx ghouls and silicon valley yuppies cannibalized him), Žižek, Harman, Haraway, Morton, etc. Undergraduate overconfidence? Most likely. But I digress.
outro
More dispatches to come soon. My next post will be on (one of) my favorite electropop love songs from the early 2000s and the clunky dysfunctionality of early smartphone interfaces. Because both love and tech should make you feel a little incompetent from time to time.
That’s more than enough yelling into the void for today…
See you in the circuits,
– wolfe
